Applying for a personal loan can hurt your credit score, but only when the lender runs a hard credit inquiry. Desert Rock Capital does not check credit at all. Your application never puts an inquiry on your credit report.
That is the direct answer. The rest of this post explains how inquiries work, what most lenders do, and what we do instead.
How credit inquiries work at most lenders
When you apply at a bank, a credit union, or an online lender, the lender usually pulls your credit report. That pull is recorded as a hard inquiry. Hard inquiries can lower a credit score slightly, and several of them in a short stretch can drag it down further. The effect usually fades within months, but it is real, and it stacks if you apply in several places while shopping around.
What Desert Rock Capital does instead
Our loan officers do not pull credit reports from Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion. There is no hard inquiry and no soft inquiry at any step of the application. Instead of looking backward at your borrowing history, the officer looks at your current situation: your income, your employment, and your existing obligations. If your income supports the loan, you can be approved without your score ever entering the conversation. That is the whole point of no-credit-check loans.
Soft inquiries vs hard inquiries vs no inquiry
A soft inquiry happens when a company checks your report for a quote or a background check, and it never affects your score. A hard inquiry happens when you actually apply for credit, and it can. The confusion usually comes from lenders who advertise a soft check that turns into a hard pull at the final step. With Desert Rock Capital there is no check at any step, soft or hard, so there is nothing to track and nothing to explain later.
What actually lowers a credit score
Three things do most of the damage: late or missed payments, high balances relative to credit limits, and hard inquiries. A no-credit-check personal loan touches none of them at application time.
Before you apply anywhere: the two questions to ask
Any lender can answer two questions in one minute: do you pull my credit report, and do you report my payments? The answers tell you the whole story. A yes to the first means an inquiry; a yes to the second means the loan shows up on your report, for better or worse. Desert Rock Capital does not pull your credit report, which is why an application here adds no inquiry to your report. If you have been putting off borrowing because of your score, the block you are worried about is not in this process. You can see exactly what the application asks for on the requirements page.
What the application actually asks for
The application asks for basic identification and proof of income, nothing more. Our post on the personal loan application checklist lists exactly what to bring. No credit report, no score threshold, no inquiry.
Frequently asked questions
Will applying for a no-credit-check loan show up on my credit report?
No. There is no credit pull, so there is nothing to record.
Does checking my own credit hurt my score?
No. Checking your own report is a soft inquiry and never affects your score.
Can I get a personal loan with no credit history?
Yes. Since there is no credit check, having no credit history is not a problem. Income and ability to repay decide the application.
Does Desert Rock Capital ever ask for my credit score?
No. The application never asks for a score, a report, or anything from the credit bureaus.
